Luke Klipp offers over a dozen years of experience working with and for local, state, and federal government. Currently, as Metro Board Deputy to Long Beach Mayor Robert Garcia, Luke works to ensure that the Mayor's priorities around customer experience, active transportation, and goods movement are addressed. He also supports the City of Long Beach's Department of Public Works in efforts to make Long Beach a more livable and sustainable city.
Previously, as a Principal Transportation Analyst for Los Angeles Metro, he appraised and made recommendations around the expansion efforts of Metro Rail, in addition to reviewing departmental budgets to ensure efficacy and minimize costs as the agency continues to grow in its efforts to serve all Angelenos.
As State Affairs Specialist for AIDS Project Los Angeles, Luke advocated around HIV/AIDS policy during the implementation of the Affordable Care Act. He organized and grew a statewide coalition of HIV/AIDS providers and advocates and communicated directly with numerous state agencies. Previously, Luke worked in San Francisco City Hall as a Senior Analyst for the San Francisco Board of Supervisors Office of the Budget and Legislative Analyst. In that capacity, he reviewed legislation for its fiscal impacts, analyzed city department budgets, assisted in management and performance audits, and managed and mentored new staff.
Luke has worked for several nonprofit organizations in different capacities, helping organize an annual national conference, creating lobbying materials, and bringing together coalitions on a federal level. Luke has also worked for two public unions, including SEIU-UHW and IFPTE Local 21.
Currently, Luke Klipp serves as Policy and Advisory Chair for Los Angeles Walks and as Education Director for Abundant Housing LA. Currently, Luke Klipp serves as Policy and Advisory Chair for Los Angeles Walks and as Education Director for Abundant Housing LA. He also serves on the Los Angeles County Democratic Party as Alternate for Assemblymember Laura Friedman. Luke is co-founder and co-producer of A Little New Music, a concert series featuring Broadway-caliber talent performing new and unheard musical theatre at a premiere LA-based venue.
Luke served as District E Representative on the Los Feliz Neighborhood Council, where he was elected by the Board to serve as President for two years after first serving two years as Treasurer. At LFNC, he first focused on improving Los Feliz's walkability and then, as President, on broadening the council's outreach in the community.
Luke has organized community clean-up events, and he has volunteered for The Trevor Project, a National LGBT youth crisis intervention and suicide prevention organization. He served two years as the Co-Director of the San Francisco Bay Area chapter of the New Leaders Council and then one year as the Western Regional Director.
In 2020 and 2008, Luke ran for local elected office: the Los Angeles County Democratic Party (2020) and San Francisco Democratic County Central Committee (2008). Luke co-founded Gay for Good-San Francisco and was President of the San Francisco Young Democrats for two years. Luke also served on the board of the Alice B. Toklas LGBT Democratic Club for seven years.
Luke earned his Masters Degree in Public Policy in 2004 from the University of California, Berkeley Goldman School of Public Policy. He earned his Bachelors of Arts in Music in 2000 from the University of Michigan.
Luke is a resident of Los Feliz in Los Angeles, California, where he lives with his husband and their sweet puppies, Godric and Uli.
